How to use Compress Image

  1. Select one supported image.
  2. Adjust the available quality setting, process it, and compare the result with the original.

Things to check

Smaller files can come with visible quality changes; output behavior depends on the format.

Example task: Reduce a photo’s data size for an upload form

Use the original photograph and adjust the quality setting. Compare the download’s actual size with the form’s limit; different image formats respond differently to compression.

Check the result: Look at faces, fine edges, and text in the exported image. A file that fits the limit is not useful if required details are no longer readable.

Common questions and troubleshooting

Why did lowering quality make little difference to my image size?

Quality settings affect formats differently, and an already compressed image may have little room for savings. Check the downloaded file size rather than only the preview. For a photograph, a suitable lossy format may help; for a screenshot with small text, check that the lettering stays readable. Resize only if fewer pixels suit your task.
