How to use Word Counter

  1. Paste or type text into the input area.
  2. Read the live word, character, sentence, and paragraph counts.

Things to check

Counting conventions can differ between editors and submission systems.

Example task: Monitor a draft with a word limit

Paste the draft while you revise it and use the live total to decide what to cut. As a simple counting example, “A clear plan helps.” contains four ordinary space-separated words.

Check the result: Recount after your final edit and check the receiving editor or submission system. Hyphens, punctuation, and unusual text can be counted differently.

Best for

Counting words and reading or speaking time in text

What it supports

Text; words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, reading time, and speaking time

What you get

Live text statistics and time estimates

Common questions and troubleshooting

Why does another editor show a different word count?

Word boundaries are conventions, not universal rules. Hyphens, punctuation, and languages without spaces can be handled differently. Use Toolza to monitor your draft, then check the final count in the submission system that enforces the limit. Reading and speaking times are estimates, not timed measurements.
